Friday Sermon | “False Wisdom / True Wisdom” by Matt Chandler

MattChandlerFor today’s good sermon, we’ll be visiting The Village Church led by Pastor Matt Chandler. We haven’t heard from Matt in some time, and he is currently leading Village Church through the book of James. I’ve selected this sermon out of the series because of the implications of rightly identifying True Wisdom of God and exposing the false wisdom of the world, whether its concerning Creation, Abortion, or Sexual Immorality. The Church, the Body of Christ, is under attack around the world. We Christians need to stand firm in our faith, and we must also embrace the Wisdom of God as revealed in the Scriptures. As always, Matt Chandler does a great job of delivering both Law and Gospel in this sermon on wisdom from James chapter 3.

James 3:13-18 (ESV) | Wisdom from Above

13 Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. 14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth.15 This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. 17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. 18 And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

Amen.

Friday Sermon | “God is for God” by Matt Chandler

For today’s good sermon, we’ll be going back in time a bit, back to Elevation Church’s Code Orange Revival of 2012. We are going to have a listen at what was most likely the best and most biblically sound message every delivered at Elevation Church… that message preached by Matt Chandler (the Village Church).

This sermon was edited out of the rebroadcasts of Code Orange Revival 2012 without any explanation. The Sola Sisters and Fighting for the Faith both covered the issue when it was current.

There are times when well-known pastors will agree to speak in highly questionable venues. Many loved ones object, fearing that their presence will be leveraged by false teachers as a tacit endorsement of their false teaching. For the most part, I agree with those who warn against going to such venues. However, what Matt Chandler does at Elevation Church in this sermon was bold, and faithful to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I really enjoyed this sermon.

If you know anyone at Elevation, pray for them that the Holy Spirit will reach them and remove their blinders. Pray for the repentance of those in leadership at Elevation. Pray that the wolves be silenced. And pray for Matt Chandler and other pastors who are faithfully executing their pastoral duties while having to deal with a mega-church environment.

Amen.

Jorge

Friday Sermon | Sanctity of Human Life by Matt Chandler

villagechurchFor today’s good sermon, we’ll be visiting The Village Church led by Pastor Matt Chandler. Now, this sermon by Matt Chandler is one of the few examples of the modern-hip approach to church service where the Word of God is still preached well. The stage, the dress-down casual attire, and the personal anecdotes are all very modern stylings, but when Matt preaches the Scriptures here, he handles them well. He still preaches Christ, and Him crucified for our sins. I’ve reviewed a few of his sermons in the past and have always found his zeal for the Gospel of Grace quite refreshing, even motivating. The sermon category is listed as Prayer, but this sermon addresses the sin of abortion. Are there some portions I think didn’t need to be in the sermon? Sure, but they don’t diminish the Biblical case he makes for the sanctity of Human life at conception.

Listen, friend. This isn’t political. This might be fought at times in the political arena, but I can assure you this is not a political issue. This is a biblical, ethical, spiritual issue that, to our shame, few of us have been moved by. –Matt Chandler

I encourage you to follow the link below to watch the sermon on the Village Church’s website where they’ve provided a written transcript so you can take your time to review the message and double-check and cross-reference the Biblical texts.
